Dental Implant Restoration

Dental implants are the modern treatment of choice for patients who are missing teeth, as they allow the long-term placement of artificial teeth with anchors below the gum line. They offer the added benefit of reinforcing the strength of the bone in your jaw, since your body will begin to resorb bone cells in any area of your jaw that is no longer supporting tooth roots. The dental implant itself is a titanium post that is surgically placed in the jawbone, and then covered while the natural healing process integrates the implant with the existing bone material. The entire process of placing a dental implant can take six weeks to a year, depending upon the complexity of the treatment. Once the implant is rooted firmly enough to serve as an anchor point, an attractive crown or dental bridge is attached to the implant to complete the restoration. The end result of dental implant placement is a strong, secure restoration that is virtually indistinguishable from natural teeth. Many patients prefer dental implants to adjacent crown-supported bridges because they require no alteration of existing teeth.

Once dental implants are placed, proper maintenance of the restoration typically requires only that patients brush and floss as regularly as they would with their natural teeth, in addition to maintaining regular dental appointments for general cleanings and checkups.
